Beginning in 1976, some of the early models have an eagle on the headstock with a 6 digit serial number that stands for the "Day-Month-Year" of the instrument (DDMMYY).

In 1988 they switched to a 4 diget serial number .. the first 2 numbers are the sequence in production the last 2 numbers are the year of manufacture.
